     Carp On Lake St Clair

Guides Corner  SteveKunnath writes "Fly Fishing For Carp On Lake St Clair
    By Captain Steve Kunnath

Lake St Clair is mostly famous for fly fishing for smallmouth bass, pike, and musky. However, fly fishing for carp on the sand flats is drawing lots of attention as well. Lake St Clair, which is located near Detroit Michigan, between Lake Huron and Lake Erie, is an excellent place to experience this up and coming fishery. In the last few years fly fishing for carp has become the fastest growing craze amongst fly fisherman in America. Many anglers now look at this stereotyped "garbage" fish in a new, and positive, sporting way. In Europe the carp has been prized as a game fish for hundreds of years.

Proper Stream Etiquette - a Few Suggestions

Fly Fishing Tips  jerrykunnath writes "

In today's day and age the population is growing more each year in Michigan and the number of people becoming interested in outdoor activities is increasing. This can cause some over crowding and create less solitude on certain Michigan waters then many of us were accustomed to in years past.

Many years ago the practice of stream etiquette was implemented to create a much more friendly and enjoyable fishing environment in areas where other fishermen were present. Although with the increasing number of people on our waters the need for stream etiquette is more important than ever before, but it seems to be getting practiced less and less. This is contributing to a deterioration of the quality and enjoyment that can be experienced while fishing Michigan.

Fly Tying Patterns  jerrykunnath writes "Recipe For Fly Tying Success
[previously published in the Michigan Outdoor News]
    By Jerry Kunnath

Back in 1996, two avid fly fishers, Ann Miller and Dorothy Schramm, talked about the scarcity of women in the sport of fly-fishing. They both wanted to meet more women who shared their passion for wetting lines and drowning flies, nymphs, and streamers. As long as they had been fishing, they had never heard of a club or organization in Michigan that catered to women in this sport. Well these two women decided to do something about it. They were the driving force behind the formation of Flygirls of Michigan; Inc. Flygirls is a 100% Federation of Fly Fishers organization. As it states in the Flygirls web site, ?We feel it is important to make a commitment to the resource by supporting and becoming a member of the FFF.? Therefore, they made it a requirement that all members of the Flygirls also belong to the FFF, a national fly-fishing conservation organization.

     Return to Alaska

Fish Stories  Darylc writes "Our first expedition into the Alaskan wilderness in 1998 was a bona fide adventure. Our party of six spent a week rafting one of the wildest rivers in the huge expanse known as Katmai National Park. American Creek, or as it is known by some ? ?Grizzly Creek,? is more of a raging torrent than anything we in the lower forty-eight might call a creek. The pseudonym ?Grizzly Creek? is also perhaps a better description for this 40-mile trip that includes class four rapids and one of the largest brown bear populations in the world. Shortly before our arrival that summer a former Alabama State Senator lost his life to the raging power of this ?creek?. "
